Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions? You’ve come to the right place!

If we have missed anything feel free to ask us at 07398 062 028 or

Are you well located for coastal hikes?

Absolutely! The Sheldon is in the heart of Eastbourne, with stunning coastal hikes in both directions. Beachy Head and Seven Sisters are popular favourites just a few minutes drive away (or slightly longer walk). It is a walkers paradise.

Check out our Hiking and Biking page for more info.

Do you have parking?

Oh, do we have parking! In fact, we have 1 free spot per guest room! You will need to provide your vehicle license number when checking in.

Please note that the parking lot is accessed by a height restricted driveway with a MAXIMUM HEIGHT of 1.9m and parking is at your own risk. We cannot take responsibility for any theft and damage while you are using our parking lot.

How far is the beach?

We are just 150m away from Eastbourne beach – it takes less than 1 minute to walk to the ocean!

Are you a dog friendly hotel?

Yes, absolutely! We love dogs and will do our best to make sure yours feels right at home.

We have special dog-friendly rooms available, as well as pet-free rooms. Please get in touch to let us know which you need!

You can visit our Dogs page for more information.

What's near the Sheldon B&B?

Well, the sea to start. Close enough to walk there in less than 1 minute, far enough down a quiet street to not hear traffic or other noise.

We are located close to the Bandstand (music evenings and weekly fireworks) and less than 5 minutes walk to Devenshire Quarter with the Congress Theatre, convention space and the world famous tennis venue.

We are a 5-10 minute walk from the Eastbourne Railway station, the Beacon Shopping Centre and from Little Chelsea, full of independent shops and brilliants restaurants. There are over 50 restaurants within a 10 minute walk of our front door.

What time is Check-in and Check-Out?

Check-in is from 3pm, but you are welcome to arrive early and leave your bags while you head out to explore.

Check-out is at 10:30am.

What's for breakfast?

For those having breakfast with us, you will find a buffet with options like cereals, homemade and self-made granola, yogurts, seasonal fruit and bottomless freshly roasted Chimney Fire coffee and Clipper tea.

You can then order a hot breakfast to order, which includes a full English (with lighter, GF and/or V/VG options) and daily specials cooked to order. You won’t leave hungry!

Do you serve lunch or dinner?

At the moment we do not. We do have a fridge and a microwave that guests can use if they like, and guests are welcome to use the dining area if they are ordering food in from a delivery service. We are surrounded by great restaurant options and we will happily recommend a few of our favourites!

Is it noisy at night?

The building was built in the 1850’s and as much as we have tried to soundproof the rooms, there is still a bit of noise from room to room. So we do ask that everyone be mindful of that and avoid late night choir practise in their rooms.

Fortunately, our street is very quiet as it has minimal traffic and no restaurants for people to spill out of noisily at midnight.

What is I forget something when I check out?

Unfortunately we cannot accept responsibility for items left on our property upon departure, however every care will be taken to ensure these are returned to you in a timely manner. Please get in touch with us as soon as you notice something is missing and we will discuss how to reunite you with your things!

Is The Sheldon accessible?

Our hotel building has a small lift that serves the 1st and 2nd floor. However, The Sheldon is in a Conservation Area and the only entrance to the hotel is via 11 steps leading to the front door.

What's your cancellation and refund policy?

You can see all the details on out Terms and Conditions page.

I love staying at The Sheldon! I come down to Eastbourne quite regularly for coastal walks on the weekends, and every time I stay here because it’s just such a lovely spot. Friendly owners, comfy beds, bright and cozy bedrooms. I really don’t think there’s a better place to stay in Eastbourne. Plus it’s great value!
